Measuring the distance between the outside of the bearings and then divide by 1/2, this measurement is used for the distance from the top of the wheel balancer to the top of the bearing landing to get the proper balance.

1/2 the distance between the outside of the bearings.

Place a depth gauge (Straw supplied) in the bearing hole until you touch the bottom of the bottom wheel bearing, mark the device (using your finger) remove it keeping the depth marked.  Bending the straw over so the end meets the marked position ( half the distance between the outside of the bearings). Place the depth gauge next to the wheel balancer and screw it in or out till the marked position on the depth gauge and the top bearing landing on the wheel  balancer line up.

While lifting your wheel of the ground place weights on the side of the wheel that is high to weight it down to level, this will balance your wheel. Then Using needle nose pliers hold the end of the pencil weight next to the hub on the spoke nut and twist the lead weight up the spoke. Using the needle nose pliers squeeze the end of the lead weight tight to the spoke.

Centering the string in the center of the bearing or level the wheel and your wheel is balanced.

Squeezing the loop on the the string force it into the straw, then use the straw to guide the string through the bearings.
